Screeching after new brake pads fitted

400-500 km. ago, new front and rear brake pads were fitted to my Defender 110 Td5 CSW (now covered 115,000 km). Not immediately but after about 200 km, I estimate, a loud screeching began to be emitted on braking. It happens when braking from slow speed to a standstill. On the open road I wouldn’t expect to hear it because I’m driving at only 80-85 km p h and not braking hard. Is this normal after a change of pads or is there a problem? Thanks.
 
Some aftermarket pads, especially on the rear callipers of Td5 110's can clatter about and make noise, it will either go away on its own once the pads bed in, or maybe not, you can try a tube of Mintex thick brake pad grease on the backs of the pads and shims on the front and rears, some people say Delphi pads do not make much noise, I ended up fitting Lockheed original pads back in, and now, no noise or clattering.

I had this identical issue couple of months ago. It went away shortly after though. I believe due to the pads being "broken in". What has not gone away though is the pads rattling, and this is despite replacing the anti-rattle springs. I believe they rattle side to side rather than back and forth. In other words, the springs prevent the rattling that occurs when the pads move back and forth but does nothing for side to side movement. The next option for me will be to try OEM pads when these ones are done for.
 
Many of the cheaper pads such don't have any anti squeal surface on the rear. I put **** part ones on the rear of the wife's D1 when I replaced the calipers and disks a couple of months ago and they are still squealing.

I have to do the front disks soon so have bought ebc brand disks which are reputedly much better.

I believe also that Land Rover also did anti squeal shims but they are hard to find
 
some pads, not cheaper but more performance ones, can have high metal content in them which can squeal in warmer weather.

depends on what you got fitted, really. could be bedding in, crap pads, high metallic pads, etc

could even be a stone getting trapped
