P38A Scrapping advice sought

Hi all

I have a 1999 Japanese import automatic P38 dual fuel petrol / LPG in Devon which has started making the dreaded piston knocking noises at 226,825 km. Pictures here fyi. I am not up for breaking it down myself so the options seem to be to put it on ebay/gumtree or scrap it. Having spent ages researching engine refurbishment and looked around this forum on the topics I am feeling overwhelmed with options & don't know where to start. I'd be grateful for any advice!

hey there, sorry news...
if you put it on ebay or gumchump it may take a little more time and daft question and offers to find a new owner but scrapping it will get rid quick. shame but whatever is easier for yourself is what matters. tough choice.:(;)
 
Might be able to get an engine from a scrapper and swap? There are so many parts on the Bay already and you have to dismantle it all and then post all the parts. Swapping the engine seems less work?!
 
Nice range of photos, excuse the pun.

It’s pretty scratched up the corners are mainly duct tape :) engine is knackered. There are loads of company’s advertising ‘wel buy your Landy running or not for cash’. Not sure on your area but they seem to be everywhere?

Yes tape covering bumper cracks ... Been green lane-ing a total of 3 times which scratched up the paintwork a treat!
Gutted about the engine as it was a dream car for me. I was also given a P38 SE which caught fire on the way to the MOT.
Now have an all wheel drive transit and the added load area is welcome. I tried hard to justify getting a defender...
 
My stepson was scrapping his Rover75 and after advice on here, he contacted removemycar.co.uk and they paid more than double what the local scrap dealer offered, and they took it away for free.

A good result then. Did they collect it using a car transporter capable of carrying 5 or 6 vehicles? I think someone by me used them last week.

The vehicle used to collect it was about the size of a standard recovery truck but two tiered so it could carry two vehicles. The guy driving it was collecting a third which he was going to tow.

The cynic in me shall stay quiet ;) Instead I will say @Kallisti you seem to have done the hard bit already: looking at your options, and , as you don't want to strip it or work on it, have come up with the answers, list it whole or scrap it.
Scrappy will pay you a silly amount, hardly worth waiting in for.
The bay or the tree, may take time to shift it.
I suppose it all boils down to how quickly you want shot
All that said, sorry to see your Range Rover go to the garage in the sky

I don't know. Looks like there was some kind of oil explosion judging by the stains on the road & the fire seemed to start in the engine bay. Sadly I had my fire extinguisher in the other P38. After the engine failed & I pulled over it went up fast with a LOT of smoke and no explosions (it was also LPG/petrol). The fire brigade eventually subdued it. The farmer who gave it to me suspected nesting animals...
