End of February could still give you a dumping of snow - so watch the forecasts! - Make sure you have warm clothes (thick jumpers) and a shovel - at the very least!!
-Unless we have a 'heatwave' in spring like last year, midges shouldn't be too much of a problem. -AVON skinsosoft IS A MUST!!

Skin so soft works as long as you let it settle on the skin and act as a barrier - don't rub it in!

Midgies come in 3 flavours. Southern areas like Galloway get them small, but in the millions. They swarm around and irritate.
Arrochar midgies are bigger, fewer, and they bite!
Northern/Skye midgies are a combination - they are big.. they swarm..and they ALL bite!

I went kayaking with a few mates at loch mare during the summer 2011 and survived the great battle of midgie. Did get a very strange look when we stopped off to buy tights though!

Well worth it though, stunning and it has lots of islands some with graves on it and another with a wishing trees. Even one island that has a loch in it with another island with a loch with an island on it!!!!

People say that being submerged completely in the water is a cure for lunacy, personally I believe them as the midgies cant get you down there!!!

If your not goverened by kids then May is usually the best month, however I have known it to snow in may :confused: And its too early for the midges to be out in force
A great big smokey bonfire keeps the midges away as does a skinfull of Tennants or McEwans

Google Streetview has been all over the place too, so you can just plonk yourself down and have a bit of a virtual tour to see if you like the scenery. I quite often have a little "drive" round the northwest of Scotland whilst I'm eating my tea for example. Unlike the old fashioned analogue version of Scotland it's usually a nice sunny day in Google land too.
