Hi All,

After many years of looking and loving the idea of owning a Disco, I finally took the plunge and purchased one yesterday, shortly after I was questioning my decision!! Only kidding, well kind off, having always owned new cars I seem to have been wooed by an old lady..... sat on my driveway is a 2000 plate discovery, TD5, Auto. From a distance she looks great get a little closer and you can see a few little battle scares, which have been badly touched up but the panels are all good and the rust appears to be minimal, inside the front leather seats and roof lining need a little TLC but all-in-all she seems pretty solid. Lets hope the FSH has bought me a decent car.

I have no doubt I will spend many hours swearing and throwing crap around whilst I work on my new worst best friend, but I hope you will all be here to help me through this difficult time in my life. Wish me luck.

Welcome, the pros will outweigh the cons!

Make sure you keep an eye on the chassis - rust is the main killer of these great motors, especially the back quarter.

Thanks, I'm already in love....and spent whole day yesterday spending next months mortgage payment on parts.

I have heard that the rust is an issue, I haven't had a chance to get her on a ramp yet to have a good look but have receipts for welding done on the back quarter. I will be looking for suggestions on how to preserve and prevent further issues assuming it all looks ok under there.

Deffo check the rear and keep a regular watch on it; the design somehow exposes the rear quarter chassis to all the salty road crud. A friend of mine put his same year model into the garage for new rear shocks; the garage phoned and asked him to come and look. The whole rear end of the vehicle was completly rotten; end of disco to the scrap heap. If there's been welding done that's why. It will rot away uncheckde until eventuall the rear seats come away from the mounts and other nasty stuff. Keep well steam cleaned, painted/ waxoiled etc. Good luck.
