As for the Stock Sat nav that came with the car, many believe it was out of date the minute the car left the showroom..

Tomtoms and Garmins tend to have good reviews, them is the ones you stick on't windscreen and they can be updated yearly for around £30 i believe. Unlike the stock system that goes unsupported after a few years ;)

+1 for smartphone. I looked in to an original LR system that and then saw how basic the display was.

You can fit a double din in to that with an adaptor plate you will also need the correct cables to use the steering wheel controls , power .speakers ect I have fitted an alpine single HU in to mine . Started off with a generic adaptor but in all honesty they were crap so I managed to get an adaptor from a car with sat nav fits a treat and fits far better

sounds like Tom Tom or garmin is going to be easiest/best it was the fact I had a very good sat nav in my FL2 with a real sexy ladies voice well fitted unit that made me wonder if there was anything similar for my TD4 but from all You have said it doesn't compare the one that was produced for FL1s.
