Santana Land Rovers

Hello all!

I have been browsing around here for the last couple of weeks gathering information. I am currently living in Colombia where there are just scads of Santana Land Rovers at really good prices. I´ve never owned a Rover, but am thinking about taking the plunge. It is way more manly than a Jeep.

Does anyone have any detailed information on the Santanas? I am thinking about a soft top Series 88, so I can import it to the States (needs to be 25 years or older, plus the Series models are the bomb).

Are all the parts interchangeable with an English model? Specifically, engine parts, gear box, etc.

Also, with the soft top will I be able to get enough heat to drive in the winter snow? (By the way, the coldest winter I ever spent was the summer I was in a lovely place called Otterburn with 5 Anglia.)

Skilled labor is really cheap down here, so I would probably buy one in decent shape (rust free) and have it almost completely redone. From reading your posts I am planning on freshening up a stock 2.25 and 4 speed, parabolic springs, maybe doing an alternator conversion and a new US type wiring harness. I want to drive it every day.

Any comments or suggestions would be welcome. If you like I can post some pics of the local offerings.

go for it santanas are how landrover should of built landrovers in the first place, they took every thing good you can buy as an upgrade and fit them as standard in my opinion they are well worth the money.

Hi and welcome matey, If your going for a series and using it for everyday use go for one with overdrive or uprated diffs...let us know what you get regards...cartman690...

What parts would you consider upgraded? Is it the same engine, transmission, and case?
