On going build thread for my Sankey camping/expedition trailer.

Picked up the Sankey on the weekend.

Its pretty good condition. Has had 60% of the tub re done with new sheet metal.

And the chassis looks in very good condition under a few layers of underseal.

I have decided to strip it all down and start from the ground up so I am sure that it is going to last.

Tried out my spare 33" tyre on there to see what it looks like!
Looks Bad Ass! but to big i think and too much additional weight

went out to picked some bits n bobs up and my exhaust fell off! Everything happens right when you don't need it!

Started trying to work out if I would get away with my spare wheel mounted on the rear. Because of the angles when off road.

Im not convinced about it yet.

With landy 1.5ft off of the ground at the front.
I can raise the sankey by around 1.5ft before the A frame touches the spare wheel.

Any thoughts is that enough or should I try something else.

I am nearing the end of a similar project, I used a trailer tent and made a suitable chassis/suspension setup instead of a sanky. I have the same situation about the spare and I have decided to simply throw the spare on the trailer if I am off roading it, on road I will keep it on the carrier.

1 of the things I wanted to make sure of with mine was the track of the trailer, I used a disco axle as it would allow me to run the trailer in the ruts when off roading and help stability. I am using 31" tyres on mine as well...

Yours looks nice and strong, should be a solid off roader when your finished, I will be making a slider type rig to surround mine soon but first I want to make sure its a practical trailer tent as far as the camping and road going characteristics

Thanks all my thoughts exactly I have an old rear door mount for spare wheel so will mount that on rear of trailer then when towing trailer can put spare wheel there.
