Those trees top left is the Fox Covert and we're both referring to the same area whatever its called.:)

For clarity, I said that groups have been P&Ping there, increasingly over the past few years by taking multiple runs through the soft ground and cutting it up.

It's a right to drive the byway there, the range warden would have no reason to dispute the right to do so. However I think that it's a matter of personal discretion if its cut up already and there is a less damaging alternative route i.e. one that it is sympathetic to the tread lightly principles. They're a set of principles I use as a guide for greenlaning and I try my best to stick to them.

Anyway, that's not the main point, which is that going back for another go changes the nature of the activity from laning to off roading in my view. I drove through there last Sunday as well, and there were multiple tracks where vehicles had driven through, turned around and gone back through, many of the tracks were from the day before and visible in the photo. That's all.

the other side to the arguement is that the more you avoid the bad spots the more bad spots you make you only have to look at dafts hole the first time i went through there (about 20 months back ) there were just 3 tracks through there now i see this year there is another 1 that by the end of this winter will be as bad as the 2 next to dafts ( i dare say if you went back 3 or 4 years it would be just dafts hole there in that valley

so by your own admission you also drive this area, and by avoiding the troughs you cause more wear to the adjoing routes?
dont see what your problem is with enthusiasts enjoying there legal right to drive theese lanes..

as for turning it into a p+p i dont know how you come to that conclusion,
so your saying if we drive through a trough carry on for miles and then return via the same route were turning it into a p+p by "having another go"..

if it upsets you that much dont go there

Or don't drive into in the first place? And if you've driven into an icy pool at Fox Covert (Daft's nemesis) don't go back for another go to churn it up? Controversial mebbe? But the Plain isn't a pay and play site.

I dont think where I got stuck is at Fox Covert, not that I know its correct name, but there aint no trees around, its at the bottom of two hills and is a gully with a muddy bypass. I think a second bypass has now been created to the right of the gully now.

Widjet...

so what you are saying is that byways should have a limit on the number of vehicles that go through it during 1 day? like a toll? lol

because I dont see the diference between 1 single land rover trying to get through it twice and 6 land rovers going through...

Another thing is, if you avoid it and go around, you are just creating a fresh new set of tracks to which the next people driving past will go.. "ho, will go through there, its easier and someone has been there".
1 month down the line and you have another massive hole.

think you'll find its the third bypass in the making atm daft ;)

Here Here!! you use the lanes you chew em up, end of story, its an unfortunate part of the interest, but if Salisbury plain ever ask for a volentary working party to help repair them, Im dam sure they would be swamped with Volenteers from this site to help out!!
