Hi
Can anyone tell me if rover steering balls stub axles and hubs and brakes and half shafts will fit a Sailsbury front axle

Where have you got one o them from you git?! :D

I had one offered for £100 a year ago, should have had it, didnt know what it was at the time!

if its defender then the wheel station complete just bolts on ,but inner half shafts are salisbury ,cvs std

I was looking at a Snatch one on ebay, thinking, thinking..... then a mate of mine today has a Shoreland chassis which is the 109 V8 front Salisbury. Is the axle carrier and tube the same width?

i.e. is the difference from the tube outwards? I am hoping the central bit, apart from the spring mounts was the same and the bits bolts on were different

regards

Mike

Width is probably very similar to std axle case however the shafts are a lot shorter than std and 24 23 and silly expensive!! this is due to the diff centre being much more beefier and the gears are wider spaced internally in diff centre

So no you can't just buy Shafts off the shelf cheaply and being series it's axle ends some
Parts are more than a bit special. It's possible to mix and match bits make things work with spacers and custom parts but if you can do that anyway you wouldn't be asking it would be built and fitted already.

Read again you hope the sals series case and sals def case are the same??

I think there completely different widths overall some shore lands were extra wide tho

ok so looks like a tape measure job on the weekend. If the case is way different then the rest is a waste of time as even with the case, and halfshafts if fit, I would still have to scrounge up:

- correct ratio centre
- spare 300tdi front end to pull the balls off

easy to get those parts.

I suppose if I really want to go nuts I could cut the ends of the tubes off and weld a bit in as I got that capability in house.

series front salibury case is totally different in that it has chrome balls built onto the axles case and not bolted as the others

Thats interesting as this Shorland one it appears the balls are bolted on......

This could be a good or bad point to the plan

Its 5 studs so I doubt it's a 101 style with the huge CV's. Damn I dont get a tape measure on it until the weekend

Found this online tonight in my travels

109v8 is a different axle to salisbury one

the parts picture I put up was for a 109 V8 Armoured car with balls bolt on

I have the piccy also of the 109 V8 which has the balls on as one piece

Someone said the wheelbase on the Shorland is different, so just checking that bit now. Perhaps why they are different? The 101 is all one piece also from memory??

keep us informed ,i used to work on the ni police series armoured and they were salisbury with balls and case as one i think but anything is possible as lr dont allways record some special builds theyve done ,i had to go to ni once to check what the front axle and parts were fitted to an armoured snatch landy as no one seemed to know exactly

yep everything I have read on the front Sals front axles is every variant is different, some have 34mm wide discs, some standard discs, different halfshafts..etc etc.

If it wasnt cheap as chips scrap value price I wouldnt bother any further. Other problems or differences I know of on the Defender version is the trailing arms and one of the steering arms are different.

I'll get some more piccies..... the other sad point is they cut up 6 Shorlands and Saxtons for scrap, which was a waste
