In a middle of an interesting project,

Question is can I fit in a sailsbury LWB diff in a SWB 88" I was wondring if I need a shorter prop shaft.

It is going to a R380 and disco trannie box (but I'm moving this forward to accomodate increase in lenght - Its a shorty R380)...

Any help on difference in sailsburys size would be very welcome

When you say diff I presume you mean axle? Because the diff from a salisbury won't fit a series swb axle. If you do fit a Salisbury axle the diff housing will be closer to the gearbox but i personally would get a shorter prop made rather than move the engine and box

Also you have to move the spring seats or fit new as they are closer together on the 88"

diff into rover axle= nope.
full axle yes, but fairly major mods needed. (spring hangers are wider on 109 so you need to cut these off and re weld closer in.)
shorter prop by 1 1/2" or 2". cant remember which!

I have a salisbury up for grabs if yer wannit, I ground off the shocker mounts though.
I'm transplanting the salisbury for a disco.
As said there are some diffo's, the drive flange is 1 3/4" futher forwards than the rover diff, as as said the leafs are outboard of the chassis rails, not inboard like the 88".
You need to do soem more research and a little measureing methinks, if it does go in it'll be a squeez, the r380 and lt77 are 4" longer than the series box, added to the salisbury drive flange thats neary 6", comming off a prop thats only a foot long or so leaves summat really short, possibly causing issues with the drive angle.
If you move the engine forwards and if practical tilt it down at the back like a boat then it might go.
I'd be inerested in a trade if you've got a prop for a rover axle lwb.

Are you running CV's at the front with perm 4x4? Salisbury axle is good there are a few ways to do it aswell.

Salisbury on a SWB 88:

If you need to get the diff oot of a salisbury dont forget that you need to make a special gizmo, as the diff housing is tensioned and grabs hold of the diff burrins.

No going to go for 2WD on trannie switchable into 4WD and retain original front Axle. Its going to be tight in there...

...Your right with R380, but looking at short bell housing - its for a V8 conversion, with a "few" more than standard horses....

(Yeah did mean Sally Axle...)
