I have seen stunning donor vehicles being used for other projects though and its an awful shame. The In Vogue looks amazing, am I right in thinking they came with matching picnic sets and hampers etc?
 
Yes, they have a hamper, more carpet, wood cappings and a larger cubby box.

It took me three years to find the '72 as I wanted one that was totally solid but not original as I wasn't going to bastardise one that was.

A weird spot of luck. I was expecting to wait a couple of years for one to come up in Ebay and for it to be missing bits but the day after I set up the alert this cropped up as a complete case and a Buy it Now.

I've gambled that when I come to sell this one on that without the hamper it's value would be much lower.

I'm off to get a quote for reproducing the door cappings tomorrow as I want a set for the '72. Might get an extra set made and sell in Ebay but they aren't going to be cheap to reproduce.

Yup. They came with 4 cappings as part of the Wood and Pickett trim level.

It was my search for a set of early two door cappings that lead me into finding the In Vogue.

I was at the specialist yesterday discussing the re-laquering of the originals for the In Vogue and a perfect reproduction set to use in my project.
 
After years of faffing about and collecting parts the build is about to start in the next few weeks.

Innitial work will be to replace with a new, later Trans tunnel and install an uprated ZX box and Borg Warner TC. This set up lived quite happily in my Overfinch so will handle whatever final engine plant is fitted.

It will also be having aircon installed so the dash will be replaced with the early 80s set up.

And seating from late models is to be fitted. And the current late spec exterior trim is to all come off and replaced with 80/81 spec.

After that I will make the final call on the engine and then retrim the interior.
 
Hi mate. Yup. Certainly been a while. Kids are now old enough to climb in themselves which makes a two door viable now and after investigating multiple auto and manual gearbox solutions I have decided that a hydraulic ZF is going to give the smoothest drive and if I scale back the engine ambitions then the box and TC will be fine, as will most of the rest of the drive train.

Once the project is done I will have a raft of spares and rare items that I don't see any point in storing so will be shifting on EBay. I'll send you a list beforehand.

How are your cars?
 
Out of storage after 4 years.

The new Nationwide interior has now been removed. As has the dash and the galvanised trans tunnel.

Had a proper look at the engine. I knew it was a new RPI install but it has a big bore exhaust and bespoke manifolds, nice Weber Edelbrock also. It's certainly the nippiest 3.5 I've driven! Very, very smooth also. Has only covered a thousand miles tops.

If your doing away with the dash I could use the glovebox, the ashtray on the ransmission tunnel with the black plastic trim and the heater control panel !! :D
 
Hi. Top of the dash is going back in. Had to remove the lot to get the trans tunnel out.

Centre fascia and dash is likely to be spare along with the seats and all the grey trim.
 
Thanks. It seemed bad removing what was basically a brand new interior but switching to the later trans tunnel means switching to the later seats and on top of that it's no more expensive to retrim the whole car in the colour I want if you are having to retrim a trans tunnel etc.

So there's now a nearly new interior and refurbed seat set up on Ebay. Someone could completely retrim an early two door rather nicely.

To be honest, that's what I was thinking when I drove it across the UK. It drove beautifully and made no untoward noises.

It's been a very well looked after car.

But it does have tinworm in the usual places. And I needed the running gear from a decent one.

Lots of good stuff on it still.
