I have a '96 S-10 Blazer 4x4 with 135K miles. It has been an
excellent vehicle and I have had virtually no problems with it.
However, yesterday I noticed a slip in the transmission; then after I
stopped at an intersection the engine reved up to about 3000 RPM in
first gear before it shifted into second. When it DID shift it was a
HARD shift. Then the "Service Engine" light came on.

I parked and then put it into Reverse but nothing happened - the
engine just reved up. I put it into 4 High and 4 Low and they worked
in Forward but not Reverse.

Transmission oil level looked OK and was half-way between Add and
Full.

Anybody have any suggestions?

TIA Chuck

time for a re-build

the sun shell has stripped

your 'delayed' 1-2 was really a 1-3 shift

I'm not the original poster, but I'll pass along my thanks for your post
just the same. I had the exact same thing happen last week in my '88 Jimmy
(170,000 miles). The only difference I could point to would be my Jimmy
did the first shift so hard that it was obvious it was going from 1st to
3rd.
