Hi

considering fitting some RX8 seats in my 90 hard top. Have been looking at other alternatives like discovery seats but seems that the RX8 seats are about the best option.

In any case all the examples I’ve seen of fitting RX8 seats seem to be in county’s without the big bulkhead, will these seats fit in a hard top with the big bulkhead?

if RX8 seats won’t fit does anyone have any other suggestions?

My 90 is a pickup with a full bulkhead
I fitted Back seats from a Renault Espace in mine.

But they are quite narrow, believe you maybe able to get three side by side in the front

Think the RX8 would be wider and probably more comfy certainly seem a popular conversion
Mazda MX5 seats fit ok, my mate has them in his 110

I've just fitted some rx8 seats into my hard top. I'm quite tall (6,3) and found that with the bulkhead the seats were too upright. (much like the original seats). So I fitted the mud bulkhead removal bar and that's sorted that issue.
Another issue is because the rx8 seats raise your legs up a bit (seat thicker and fitted on rails) the standard steering wheel was a little too big and my knees touched it. Fitted a smaller steering wheel and that's now sorted.
As mentioned, the seats are wider than standard, for me this meant removing the middle seat. Going to fit a cubby box in its place.

The seats are way more comfortable than standard, though my standard seats were absolutely shagged!!

I must be an old miserable sod as I like the original seats. They bloody comfortable are easily adaptable. (I must say, a few years ago I was attracted to RX8 seats) but after comparing I didn’t see the point. My legs hit the steering wheel. I do like the idea of removing the bulkhead and allowing the standard seats more room to move. But in answer to your question, smart car seats are a great inexpensive option and just as comfortable. But like with the RX8, you will need to change your steering wheel.

Thanks for this. I’m 6’4” and taking the bulkhead out isn’t really an option as I’m always chucking feed bags and stuff in the back which needs to lean against the bulkhead. The main reason we never changed this td5 for a tdci was that I couldn’t fit in one and my knees touched the dashboard.

It would seem therefore that it’s maybe back to the drawing board. The RX8 seats I was looking at were in good nick but quite dear and no point getting them if I’m not going to fit!!

The bottoms of both my seats are shagged and ripped to heck. I thought I’d like something a bit more comfy and heated because it’s a bit chilly in there sometimes as my landrover isn’t the most airtight! But it seems I’m not going to fit in with RX8 seats as I’m too tall.

Will have a look at smart car seats. Might be that I will just have to settle for 2 new seat bases for the original seats

the original seat in my 110 project are comfy but my 90 were shagged so had to change them.

so concur with landyfox originals are quite good

i am 6ft 2" and my 90 on espace seats i am still on the standard original big wheel fitted in 1986, however i am a skinny dude so teh narrow seats is ok, not sure how comfy they would be long distance..LOL

The mud bulkhead removal bar doesn't remove the full bulkhead, only top section.

I fitted a pair of Citroen BX seats in my 90, cloth so warm enough in winter and not sweaty in summer when I'm in shorts. A little wider than std but I made a cubby box anyway, a little thicker in the base but softer foam so I sink into the seats more. Very comfortable and give another level of suspension, best thing is that the seat squabs come out with a couple of clips, so easy to get to the battery.

I was looking at the seats in my lads early BMW 1 series and they look like they may be a good fit with quite a slim seat base so good for head room ...at this point my lad caught me and told me to sod off
My missus has one of them... will have a wee shifty!
