Im rebuilding a 1971 swb landrover, 125 miles away from home (just to keep things easy)

Anyhow appart from setting the timing the only other issuse is a pasanger footwell, its got a few holes, well quite a few to be honest.

So main question is if i put it in for a mot will she fail ??

Thanks Andy

Pretty certain its a failure, there are some areas that can have a certain amount of corrosion in it but think footwells are deemed structural

hi,
I was wondering as i know of some passing mots in the past. Re why risk it, its the 250 mile round trip thats the main issue. if it wasnt a problem ide book her in for a mot and bring her home to do the work. if it is ill have to do one trip to fix it and another for the mot :-(

O for a house with a drive !!! lol

Depends how much rust and where , I had a fail with mine tester said it was allowing steering column to move.

Is it OK to cut out the rusty bit with a nibbler....and then rivet a plate over it (with say a 2cm overlap)...or does it have to be welded??

Thanks.

Technically any severe within 30cm of a body mounting OR steering component "Should" fail the MOT ...

However passenger side footwell is "less" critical and providing your feet aren't likely to fall through AND the corrosion isn't within 30cm of the bulkhead foot/outrigger bolt,
it should be fine with a plate riveted over as a temporary measure .

ok missed some of them replys. I have a replacment footwell but i think ill cut the side off it and turn it into a plate to cover everything and spot it in place. can of underseal should do the trick and stick her in for a mot with all fingers crossed lol

(still not worked out what im going to do with 2 landrovers???)

Just got back from the test centre with my 88; rusty footwells are not a fail as my tester pointed out its not a structural part of the vehicle. But my rust was on passenger side and it wasn't that bad. He said if there was a gaping hole on drivers side, he could well fail it!

As it was I failed on rear shock bushes being totally destroyed (that's what the clunking noise was!) so much so that they were just rattling around on the mounts! It also failed on the rear wheel bearing as I had left too much play in it when I did the oil seal. All told, a £30 fix so not bad.:5bbeatdeadhorse5:
