Taking advantage of the fact it had been dry weather for the past ten days last weekend I went to town on the underneath of Freddo ready for winter
On Saturday I first jacked up the drivers side, brushed of any loose rust - Wasn't much to be honest apart from the Petrol tank cradle. Then I gave all the chassis and petrol tank cradle a double treatment of KuRust rust stopper. I know this works well from years of use on my motorbikes. It turns bare rust black and gives it a coat that you can leave or paint. Then switched the car round and did the passenger side.
Sunday I sprayed the entire underneath with Tectane PS 697 protection wax. This was sourced from Toolstation. I went a bit mental and used five cans spraying loads into the holes in the chassis and made sure everything had a good coat.
I decided on using this PS 697 because I had good reports from friends who had used it last year and at £3.65 a can is a bargain in my opinion. It certainly went on well leaving a thick coat of wax. Tectanes description :- Offers long lasting protection from corrosion, oxidation and dirt. After the wax has dried up, there remains a sticky, plasticine like, water repellent film which is almost colourless. Salt water and heat resistant up to +100°C[i/]
Must admit after a weekend of rolling about on the floor under Freddo with arms out stretched a lot of the time I could hardly move on Monday and the tops of my shoulders were on the worst. Reminded me of my Weight training days.
I had a nice feeling of achievement though and of course I had saved most of the £60 I had been quoted to give Freddo a quick squirt of Waxoyl by the local Garage. Plus I did a far better Job
