Rust 'dripping' internally above passenger footwell.

Hello.

Has anyone noticed this before on their car too please?

The location is on the passenger door side, under the glovebox (internal) next to some electrical wires.

Water leak or condensation? I can't figure it out! Car is a 2004 facelift, so a bit old, but not ancient.

Hopefully I can buy new metal bracket as it doesn't look too good now it's all rusty.

I would hesitate a guess at condensation. That bracket has zero rust protection on it.

It only has a very low level of surface oxidation. If it was me, I would take it off, rub it down, degrease it and spray/paint it. Probably gloss hammerite.

Thanks for the replies. The car barely gets driven so perhaps it is due to being parked up for days in winter with no heating on? The car did get a lot of mold on it in the winter, on the door cards, seats and even a few grooves in the dashboard.

It got washed last weekend though so maybe the water splashed inside through a hole in the engine bay? I've had a few accessories fitted and I can remember seeing the rubber bung thingy that seperates the engine bay from the interior where you connect to the battery to the interior wiring didn't look very secure so I'll take a look.

I'll then do what was recommended and get the rust off and paint it. I like the freelander but sometimes there seems to be a few design faults/quality control issues compared to a more modern car where everything tends to be covered in plastic e.g. the engine bay.

If that is the worst rust you ever encounter on a Land Rover, consider yourself very lucky indeed.

Above that bracket is the intake for the heater, which passes through to the exterior under the plastic scuttle panel below the windscreen.

A buildup of leaves or other goop there might mean rain water is getting past the seal and inside rather than draining away.
