Running Costs of Defender

my next question is safety.

I have 2 kids still in car seats/booster seats - anything I should be aware of?
 
Don't get one with only bench seats in the back as you're not allow to use a booster seat/ child seat and you're not allowed to use a lapbelt on a bench seat to restrain a child.

But there is a defender available will proper back seats suitable for childseats?
 
yes the 110's will carry a child in forwards facing seats. For 90's you can buy forwards facing seats but you need to put £1000 aside to buy them or you could fit minibus seats with integral seatbelts.

I've got forwards facing seats in the back my 90 and they are a pain in the arse. There really isn't enough room to climb in if you have both seats folded down. If your going to be straping kids into child seats it will be even worse.

Go for a 110 with highback seats in the second row.

Insurance Group 13, so middling. Fuel economy isn't bad if you keep the speed down, Land Rover don't employ anyone who knows about aerodynamics.... I insured mine with National Farmers Union who gave a great deal at around £250 with 5 years no claims on an £11k 'car'. Some of the team here talk about the fun driving it and I can back that up 100%, all my family love the new addition to the family.
You can get some good deals from the Dealerships at the moment especially on Range Rovers, although Defenders are really holding their value compared to others. The dealer told me he offered less than £20k for an 18month old Porche Cayenne when the owner said he still owed £40k on it (ouch).
I would go for a TD5 motor, loads of torque and relatively quiet (note the R word!). I'm getting around 32 miles per gallon out of my TD5 90 at the moment but it has a GKN overdrive fitted but it's going in for some work at the dealer as it runs very cold so I expect that to get better. All servicing DIY as designed to be done without a degree in engineering, or anything except big spanners ;-)

That's cheap, although I take it you're not getting any no claims discount with them?

Footman James quoted me £900 for a K reg 200tdi I'm thinking of buying, have shopped around and thus far the cheapest I've found is £570.

I've got three years NCB but three points as well so they cancel each other out pretty much :(

Yeah... Great... Then you have to pay £100 a day because of the LEZ appyling to Vans, Picks us and Mini buses... Unless it is built after 2006.

A 110 station wagon (ie a 5 door) should count as a car, not sure about a 3 door with rear seats. I think it all depends on what it says on the V5.
However the extension of the LEZ to smaller vehicles has just been postponed/cancelled, so don't panic
 
all Landrovers are either Cars (90 & 110 county) or dual purpose vehicles. except 130's and ambulances etc. Which is why 110 hardtops aren't subject to the 50mph speed limit, that applies to transits sized vans etc on single lane roads.

Nope and that's why loads of them are getting done for speeding. I only knew because I hired a transit about 4 years ago and the guy that ran the business was on the phone to the previous hirer to tell him that he had been done for speeding. doing 58mph on the A470 in Nth Wales.

It does.. Except some monkey at the TFL added EVERY single 90/110 and defender to its list as not meeting the requirements (Excluding ones built after 2006) And yep.. I think Boris is much better than the idiot we have in power at the moment... Who no one voted for. :rolleyes:
