Mr RSW seems to be a very clever and able chap. Im glad that I waited for what he would produce. If the system comes to fruition then I will certainly have one and hope that it works with effing Windows 7!!!!!!

Even at 250USD, its seems a bargain compared to BBS

rovacom was actually a good system by BBS. they replaced it with faultmate - to better enable the vin locking? :behindsofa:

does it need to? at the commercial end of the market there are plenty of options and all around similar prices. its the diy-er that's getting shunted most of the time and this, if offered as advertised, fills that gap.

no no it doesent need to be up to commercial quality but im just wondering what its capable of.

From what i've seen on the video it appears that it will compete with BBS. We shall have to wait and see. As I said, RSW seems to be very capable and im pretty sure he will only sell something with his name on it that is capable of doing the job.

Good morning Gentlemen,
I am very excited as well on the progress. This project has officially been going on for a year now. That make me a bit nervous but I am very near the end. So to see the community happy, make it seem more than worth the effort.

The tool will cost approximately 250 USD. The cost may go down; it just depends on the final numbers from my local manufacturer. There was a problem with parts availability but that seems to be solved now. The solution was to purchase as many of the parts as I could before the company stopped making them. I ended up buying 4000 parts to solve the problem. The part was a major component, so I could not just replace it easily.

The tool will not be locked to any specific vehicle type or any specific vehicle VIN. I think that practice, while generating more money for the manufacturer, would alienate the Rover community too much. It just does not seem to be beneficial to anyone but the manufacturer. And I am doing this for the larger Rover community.

I do intend to finish the tool and have units for sale in February. The tool may not be complete for all the Rover model subsystems, but I am going to get it as complete as I can. Downloads of the software will be free and so will updates. I am hoping to integrate the update system in to the software and it would be automatic. The software is being written and tested on a Windows 7 64 bit machine. So there will not be any issues with drivers or OS.

Once the core "read and clear faults" functions for all the vehicles have been completed, then other modules for the other system functions will be written. Other functions would include; key programming, brake bleeding, light timers, etc…

Thanks Guys,

Is not particularly phased or drawn to comment on this thread. I would just like to point out that i recall reading something like this with just the same "next month" kind of promises made on this board by someone not then really understanding what he was getting into, pretty much the same time last year.
Thousands of lines of code, sounds impressive, until you have produced a couple of Gigabytes worth and have 10 + years of experience behind you !!!

What really amazes me is that no one imagines for one second what we, as a professional Land Rover diagnostic equipment provider, with our entire team of full time programmers might have used almost a whole year to achieve

If you only knew what i do :doh::doh:

Colin, I do not doubt for one second, your ability or the ability of the equipment that BBS produce. Having said that, this market has a competitive edge and you are dealing with people who are looking for products that suits their pocket. Now , if someone produces a product that is equally as good as a more expensive alternative and without restrictions plus free software, then where is that person going to go for their product.

Of course you can revert back to a good old saying ' Buy Cheap Buy Often' but in this case I myself have some confidence in the alternative producers ability.

We will have to wait till Feb and if the product comes to fruition and is of a standard we would expect then I expect people will go for it.

Without predudice

Dave:)

Shirley - yu is all ****ing in the wind - Until, If and When RSW produce summat, it is all specualation and guesswork. lets wait and see and then a qualified comparison can be made.
I wouldnt be surprised if Colin has a competitive product up his sleeve, but at the mo, he doesnt need to market it.

Time will tell :D.

Like I said, Time will tell and we will see in February. We have got to give this guy a chance. I dont see anyone complaining about his free EAS Software download.

You never know he may well just surprise us

This is well impressive, clever bloke.
Lots of people (conmen) will be forced out of the market with this.
