Hi all - I've a '95 soft dash which is exhibiting some odd symptoms. Thought I'd ask you collective wisdom before starting to dig.
The battery light is always on when you start it up, usually goes away when you give it a blip of throttle, although sometimes it can take up to 30 seconds of driving to go out. It also feels like the tacho is indicating about 500rpm lower than it should (about 2400 @ 80mph).
It's just got back on the road following front end an inner wing rebuild for which it was stripped out. Spoiler lamps and headlights were replaced at this time.
It's had factory spot lamps since new and the trigger wire to the relay was cut then re -joined during rebuild.
What it's now doing is this:
Headlights appear to pulse bright to dim and back, although not dramatically. This intermittent but especially prevalent when braking - brake lights are not affected.
When you flash, or as you click through to main beam, the radio dies for a second, as does the rev counter. Once main beam is engaged its fine.
When indicating, although only to the left, the speedo sometimes dies combined with the rev counter bouncing up and down in time with the indicator.
The problem seems to be worse with greater load - if I turn off the spoiler driving lamps it's less of a problem, although not cured.
Do I have an alternator issue, earth problem or both!? And if so, where is the best place to start looking!
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
