Hi,

Long time lurker but I am struggling to find out the answer/not sure I like the answers I found, so thought I would regster and probe the collective knowledge of the people here:

So I have found a defender 90 in need of restoration which is something I have been looking for recently - and its really local at less than 2 miles down the road. It is a 1985 model with a 300tdi engine, but more importantly it has a Range Rover cut & shut chassis.

The vehicle (so I'm told) was converted pre 1998 and there is no recept/info for the donor vehicle (even the chassis number has been rather obviously ground away). The log book states no difference to a defender 90 (would there be any difference on the V5 if it had been originally declared?).

Now to the crux of the matter. With no proof of conversion date, structural report or donor vehicle, all the information I have found would suggest I need to get it through an IVA and onto a Q plate? If I do, would it even be possible to get this through an IVA? Or has the fact the VIN number has been ground away mean its just a pile of scrap to stay away from?

Im not 100% sure its worth getting an original/3rd party galv chassis for but its so local I keep coming back to it...

Any help or information will help!

In the eyes of the DVLA a Land Rover is the chassis and the chassis number is it's identity. With that number ground off it's a fair chance that this would be viewed as stolen and you could have a long hard job getting the car accepted.

Wow! Thanks for the quick replies!

From what I had read I thought this might be the case. Back to the classifieds and Facebook pages I go then!
