Rounded Torx Bolt - How to get it out!

Superglue wont work. I tried JB Weld and Epoxy neither worked.

Hacksaw idea was my first thought. But it could damage the screw even further, making it near impossible to remove.

+1 if these don't shift 'em you are really in the deep brown stuff, manifold off and a welder required.

i had the same problem. Its the fact the metal will warp over time and the allen bolt just welds itself in there.

Me and a friend had a right game with the bottom bolt. We persevered with WD40 over a week or so then got the mole grips on it as tight as possible and then it eventually moved.

Right angled drill bit if thats not an option though.

get a chisel and smash the head off and start with a small bit and gradually enlarge until you can scrape the casing of the old bolt out of the threads. get a tap and dye set and clean up the threads and your good to go. :)

Got the top bolt off, kinda with the irwins. However the head sheared off... Leaving some stud in place so i cant hammer it down to free up the bottom bolt.

Cant get grip on the bottom bolt at all, not with the irwin, grips or anything.

Going to try and get a mate to weld a nut on the bottom one and then onto the stud to get that out.

Same happened on mine mate, you're not alone.

I ended up taking the manifold off, realised it wasn't flat (against the engine block) so fitted a refurb one that had been de-webbed, baked in a kiln for a few days and skimmed. Was more expensive but it was that or try and go through the problems you're having and I needed the beast for work. Engine is better for it.

Good luck!
Matt

 ffs. Other bolt sheered off too! Means manifold has to come off...

Which I highly expect being an LR means the fecking manifold/turbo bolts will all sheer off as well.

Why is it what should be a 30 min job turns into a 3 day job.

had my turbo and manifold off recently.
plenty of penetrating fluid. and make sure your sockets/spanners are square on the nuts. as I loosened each one I did it back up again before starting on the next one.
good luck.

Yeah so manifold & turbo have been off. All cleaned up, managed to sort my wastegate issue too which is nice!

Thing was the head sheered like an omlette but was seriously tough to bloody drill through!

Also in the mean time fitting a decat and straight through. All new nuts and studs fitted (cooper slip of course) and finally the EGR is properly blanked!

Should run like a beast when i finish.
