I thought you did the ignitiond for him kev? or am i getting confused , there is about 2 or three people on here with the same problem at the moment.

I will say it only one more time.

This is exactly the same problem I had and with all the same suggestions from people here blah blah blah , anyway after I had tried everything listed so far it was the TPS and its an easy fix, I am getting tired of saying this now so blocks to it :p

I checked ignition timing and also if the vac advance was doing its' thing. I also loaned a genuine Lucas rotor arm and re-routed the ignition leads.

It will idle properly and I was not convinced there was a fuel injection problem. Hopefully once a genuine cap and arm are fitted and the vac advance replaced all will be well. If it isn't then I guess it will be time to get busy with the multi-meter but the fundamental stuff looked O.K.

You could well be right with TPS but it would make sense to focus on having ignition system right before moving on to fuel injection; if nothing else, the ignition system is easier to work on as there is very little to it. If it is EFI related then standard checks should show it up but iffy ECU can sometimes make this more difficult, the other thing is, there is no EFI warning light showing which (at face value) suggests all the EFI components are doing their respective jobs.

Watch this space.

mine wasnt showing an engine light for the tps but after a year of playing silly buggers with all the above faults and then finally after the warm running fault I posted a few weeks ago it showed up on stuarts magic box as "Throttle pot"

I reckon that light only comes on if the ecu has problem judging by the posts on here over the last year, mind you it is an old system.

I know what you mean. I had a duff ecu that wasn't reading the air flow meter but no warning light. I suspect this could be a common problem that a faulty sensor with a faulty ecu shows no warning light. There are so many possibilities so I have to say I try to start with the simple principles first.

Think suck, squeeze, bang, blow. If it sucks:eek: are you getting the bang? If not why not - if it ain't getting fuel look at fuel system first, then EFI. If it ain't going bang, look at ignition then EFI. Anything in between, a process of illimination - fuel system, ignition system, EFI.

If the focus is on the ignition system, then you may want to check the coil as well. Acceleration requires a stronger spark and will show up any shortcomings in the coil.

Now i did wonder bout the coil cos i hear the bosch 1s put out a stronger spark an as mine aint then ???? bin out in her all day with no apparent problems , havn't flushed the rads yet cos there was much better things 2 b doin but had no over heatin issues either so its a job that can wait couple more days , kev if ur home 2moz then i can drop ur arm back round 2 u or leave it somewhere safe 4 u 2 find , let me no , an everybody else , many thanx 4 takin the time 2 look an offer advise all appreciated THANX

yep just got a text from mud pie, its at billing. have to see what mrs lse has planned, hopefully she will be working, so i wont have to convince her its a nice day out at a holiday centre, then show shock when its full of landrover stuff:eek:
