Hi I'm new to the site but have used it a couple times to find answers to problems iv had with my td4,I was wondering if any one has a rover ron box for sale on here as my Freelander is mind numbingly slow and seems to feel like it's revving a lot higher than the rev counter indicates when I put my foot down and it eventually pics up! I'm hoping one of these magic box of tricks will cure the lack of power and performance!

Marc.

Sounds like your MAF sensor is on its way out, unplug it and see if if runs better. If so you need a new one.

I have replaced the maf with one out of a low Mileage td4 and it has improved the performance but it still doesn't feel as powerful as my fathers td4 of the same year that's why I was thinking of the box and the pierburg to liven her back up?

I've got a Synergy 2 with new in the box Peirburgh (sp) sensor and new switch. Just took it off my TD4 last week as I'm thinking about selling the Freelander. I didn't need the sensor and never got round to fitting the switch. Got he instructions etc as well.

How much would you want for the lot mate? Does it all work as it should? Ect ect

If its revving more than your rev counter suggests, is your clutch not slipping? Would explain your lack of power...

No the clutch isn't slipping it just sounds like I'm having to flog the stones off it to get it to go any where there's no clutch slip mate

Before you do the Ronbox I would suggest checking everything else first. Replace the turbo hoses with silicon ones, clean out the EGR and plug the vacuum hose or fit a EGR bypass. Change the PCV to the dyson type. I have also fitted a pipercross air filter.

Maybe I have got used to the lack of performance, but my Ronbox is turned off but the MAF is turned on. I have the 3 way switch fitted. The reason it is turned off as I fitted it to the car when I bought it and have since sorted out most problems and wanted to see what it was like without the Ronbox on. I have now run it for over 800 miles like this over 2 tank fulls of diesel.

Time to switch it on again!

yes....i put a digimaf box and peirburg maf on my rover 45 recently..wow...what a difference!!!amazing improvement...to the extent that the clutch has now started slipping.:(..but it has done 121000 miles on the origional clutch.
im just putting a ronbox on my td4 freelander...i hope the result is as impressive.

I have taken the egr off and cleaned all the gunk out also plugged the vacuum pipe, changed the filter behind the air box, changed the air filter, fuel, oil filter had injectors 2,4 reconditioned and now a nearly new Bosch maf sensor in and still goes like a 3 cylinder cement mixer also the turbo pipes look to be in pretty good nick I'm loosing patients with it now lol

Is it making any sounds?

I thought my turbo pipes were fine, but I must have had a leak for a while.

I have put silicon hoses on and I now have a squeal. I have been told it is probably turbo related ie I haven't quite sealed the hoses properly. I put it down yo the new T clamps being too big.

I'll have to check them again. I have the man flu at the moment  and don't feel like doing anything other than sleeping at the moment. And it's been raining and I have no under cover area to work in apart from under the car!!!

I was thinking of trying a box onit to see if it cures the sluggishness or changing to a set of 16 inch wheels and a smaller profile tyre as iv got 17s onit at the moment with big tyres that could possibly be making it low geared?

The original poster has said he'll buy it but I've not heard from him since, if he doesn't get back to me or has changed his mind then yes, it will be for sale.

It doesn't seem to be making any sqeeling sort of noises that iv noticed however it does have a pretty loud whistling noise like you can here the turbo working and when you let of the throttle it sounds like the waste gate is working I may try the silicone hose route mate
