Hello chaps
I have recently bought a 91 disco 200 tdi, The rocker gasket is leaking quite badly & I have looked back through the history & its had about 5 fitted in its life.
I assume that this is a common problem & have you any tips on sealing it as i dont want to fit another gasket and still be losing oil.

I will put up some pics soon but if you like looking at minters then dont bother looking !!!! Lots of rust & body corrosion but one thing i will say i really dont care when im driving it as it seems to drive quite nice, has piles of main dealer & specialist history up to 140k.

It had a complete clutch & recon gearbox @ 120k & rear shockers.
It has a blue front anti roll bar. Does this mean anything to you guys ?
It has covered 184k & appart from the oil leak the engine sounds sweet & starts first time everytime ( once youve messed about with the buttons on the stupid alarm system ) which i would like taken off !!!! lol

Transfer box - diffs all work ok with no terrible noises !
Mot,d till may
Cambelts well overdue ( done at 102k ) so im doing that before it goes anywhere doing water pump also.

Its great to see a disco on the driveway and for what i paid im not dissapointed !

Cheers for reading

The rocker gasket is changed when the valve clearances are checked/adjusted.
You could remove the rocker cover without losing any oil and check the condition of the rubber gasket/seal if its damaged renew it they are cheap off ebay. If its ok clean the top of the head where the gasket sits and clean the gasket and replace the rocker cover. Tighten the 3 bolts to form a good seal and it shouldn't leak anymore. ;)

Might be an idea to do the valve clearances when the rocker covers off and buy a new rubber gasket/seal from ebay.
You will be able to forget about it for a while then mate!

Funny you should say that i asked me m8 for a borrow of his feelers earlier.
Cheers anyways 10 thou isnt it ? & got a rocker gasket on its way mate

Sorry to seem daft mate but could you explain that method in a little more depth
please, never done valve clearances before.

I usually dab a bit of tipex correction fluid on the rocker arm of the valve that i have checked/adjusted as i do em. So you can easily see which you have done and which need to be done. If you miss a valve don't be tempted to turn the engine the other way to check it or the clearance won't be correct.

Dont over tighten the rocker cover as this can cause the gasket to distort, I know some people like to ream nuts and bolts up. I used to be a nightmare for it having used to work with heavies alot but now I have soft hands!! ;)

cheers matty, Im doing a cam belt too, never done one on a diesel before but have read the manual about ten times & have bought a needle torque wrench as i only have breaker ones, also a 9.5 mm drill bit to lock the injector pump so hopefully it will go ok, gonna wd40 everything the day before, doing the water pump too and valve clearances & rocker gas while im at it lol
Nice one on the advice much appreciated

I am also doing the cambelt, never done one on a diesel before but have read the manual 10 odd times & ordered a needle torque wrench & a 9.5mm drill bit to lock the pump as well as a belt kit & water pump, and a rocker gasket, Im not a fan of gasket sealer myself but do you recommend i use it anywhere ???? already found the turbo inlet pipe hanging off the air box & unsecured at the turbo end ! OH and it seems to have lost its rear bumpstops (the rubber bits anyway ) any ideas where i can get some, cant seem to find them on ebay lol
Cheers for all the info guys, much apprectiated.
