Just noticed this thread...I would have coated everything inside and out with rust convertor before paint...using it to good effect on P6 resto hard to get to bits brush a lot on then use air pistol to blow it around...

hiya

Many thks, will be using a rust convertor and protector for inside but will then use hammerite for the outside , as there only rock sliders wasn’t going to use Dinitrol

for the rear crossmember I’ll more than likely use Dinitrol for inside , looks like the only issue is a little bit of rust around the towing sockets , for that I’ll use this

https://www.landroverblogger.com/product/metalmorphosis

thks for the tip ref the air pistol, am pleased as the rest of the chassis is solid , that’s already been treated with Dinitrol inside and out , also underbody

did treat myself to this endoscope, must admit the picture quality is quite good , will take some pics inside the rock sliders and also rear crossmember ,gave up using the cheaper endoscopes

Was on special offer on amazon for £50

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Industri...653585?hash=item263f4b4091:g:XzEAAOSwp49e~FXa

Had to sand a lot of the rock sliders down as the paint was peeling , also rough areas, all now smoothed , cleaned off , just waiting for paint

Going to then see about this front bumper , posted a separate thread for that as not sure about the plastics on it ref painting

always liked the P6, always had a great interest in the coupe

thks again

fantastic job you’ve done there , hats off to u mate

that’s very interesting ref spraying the hammerite , how much do u need to thin it down please , think u can tell I’m very new when it comes to spraying

have a 9.6 CFM, 120 psi 50 litre compressor , know ifs no good for big panels but hopefully ok for smaller items like trims, bumpers etc

would it also be a good idea to get some measuring cups plse

very grateful for any help, just thought the hammerite I’ve ordered is the textured one, wondering if that would need thinning more ????

thks again and indeed also found out it’s alot cheaper buying paint in 1 x litre plus sizes over aerosols

also thought about getting a mini gravity spray gun for the bumper / trim panels to help the compressor not pushing out so much , if that kind of theory works that is , thk u

wow, good weather for drying paint out , lol

ps, would adore to see progress pics plse, would u consider doing a members project thread plse as I imagine many would also be interested , thks

For me the Hammerite look is not one I like as for thinning for gun it´s 10 per cent...I´m lucky we use loads of clear plastic tubs in our business that dried chilli flakes come in so just use a ruler and marker to get percentages right you could also use empty milk cartons...500ml water mark line add 50ml water mark line empty and dry add thinner then top up to top line with paint and shake...no need for small gun as long as gravity fed your ok...have started a thread in members projects will update tomorrow so would be good if you had a look it´s not one but 3 vehicles starting with as found and tomorrow a bit of history behind them...

thats very helpful and extremely grateful , thk u

so ref the lines after marking a milk container , ie 500ml , I fill the pot to 500ml with thinner and then add 10% of paint to the 550ml mark so basically add 10% paint and not 10% thinners

did just buy 5 x litres of gun cleaner as I had to buy a shultz gun for the underseal , meant to say another reason I thought about a mini gun was volume of paint being sprayed as in having more control in small areas instead of a bigger gun having a larger spray pattern and producing more volume of paint,

but wouldn’t have a clue what size nozzle , would I need around a 2.0 and is there any particular thinners I need plse

awesome I’ll check that out, thks for sharing as expect many others will be interested in that

thks again

Ah no you mark container using water...I find it easier to do the 500ml first then add the 10 per cent on for thinner...my mistake by saying thinners first its paint then top up with thinners sorry for confusion...dont know what I was thinking when I said thinners then paint!!

I knew what u meant with using water first so could mark the container , lol, no probs and wondered that ref the thinners and paint the wrong way round , snigger

would have taken a while building up the layers, ;), does it matter ref thinners percentage if the paint isn’t the smooth but hammered plse , must admit can’t find any data sheet from hammerite to save bothering u again , as I felt bad in asking another daft question

is most appreciated , have started to read a few web sites ref paint, as in what paint to use for plastics as I think it will work out a lot cheaper than buying rattle cans for the front bumper , have been using hycote but they only do cans which is a shame as pleased with the paint

also in what paint company to use seeing there are so many

have nearly finished spraying the spare door handles I’ve got , did get a few cans of hycote lacquer which I’m thinking of putting on as a final coat to the handles to protect them better

thks again and look forward to ur post, would u mind when u do of tagging me plse, many thks
