Small update.

Finally got rid of the noise under acceleration.

Spent all day rebuilding the front axle yet again (3rd time in as many months) and the noise has gone.

Safe to say the pinion bearings in the diff I removed are well and truly shagged. Lots of movement in the bearing. And I mean a few mm in all directions.

Going to strip the duff diff down tomorrow or boxing day to investigate. Then rebuild it in the new year.

Been a busy boy today.


Firstly sorted a small starting issue which has cropped up the last week. Turnt out to be a shoddy earth, so took apart and cleaned that all up and it works.

Then took the rear prop off to investigate why my handbrake has stopped working.
Full of mud and water.




So pulled the whole assembly off and swapped it for another assembly on a spare transfer box and now have a decent handbrake. Until the next off road session.

Will strip the assembly I've pulled off and give it a clean and put it back together so I can swap out again if needs be. So much easier than faffing with it from underneath.

Also stripped, cleaned,regreased and reassembled the rear prop.

Once all that was done decided to check out why my alternator belt tensioner bearing has been getting noiser and generally worse for the last few weeks.



Safe to say there isn't much left of the bearing.

So that'll be a new tensioner then. Gonna see if I have a tensioner somewhere in my parts stash and hope I have a decent bearing in it or I'll be buying new.


And finally a cool pic I took yesterday.




Got asked by my grandad if I could fix so said I'd give it a go, only required a couple of hydraulic hoses and some new air intake hoses. Managed to get covered in hydraulic fluid in the process but was worth it when I got to have a little play afterwards

Hope you had gloves on as hydraulic fluid is poisonous.

The noise from The diff was it like a grumbling noise as ive got a noise coming from rear n it only under hard acceleration n sounds bit like a grumble

I don't know I've not stripped it.

It was the bearing on the belt tensioner that was taken out.

All my alternator has had done to it is being blasted with the jet wash whilst the engine was running.

Yep always where gloves when playing with oils and stuff. Never used to but started to a couple of years ago.

Yea could say it was a grumbling noise. Kinda like a grumbling drone.
Pinion bearings were absolutely shagged when I pulled the diff apart to have a look.

Ah ok yea it's simple just take the bolt holding the pulley on remembering it's a right hand thread. Then undo a clip that's like a circlip but isn't, then tap the bearing out.
Mine was well and truly in there so required a bit of brute force and ignorance.

Hopefully I have got a spare in another tensioner pulley somewhere. Won't be able to check until tomorrow though.

Haha I knew that It's opposite to the normal way whatever it is.

The clip is pretty simple with a couple of screwdrivers. Getting it back is easier though I found.

Hey guys.

Been a while since my last update but I have finally found some motivation and done something to the old girl.

Anyway since fitting the winch have wanted to fit a second battery. So today set about sorting it.
First thing to do was get rid of the 300tdi airbox and fit a 200tdi one instead and rerouting the snorkel pipework.

New hole cut in the wing, air intake pipework altered slightly, and all sealed up with rtv sealant and jobs a goodun.

Could then test fit the new battery.




Will adjust the position of the airbox and clamp it down once the sealant is dry.


Then made up some cables to connect my 2 yellow top optimas together (temporarily until I fit a split charge system) out of some old welding earth cable.
Will remove my red top optima for now until the split charge goes in.




Should hopefully finish wiring up the batteries and winch before Sunday when it's out to play in the mud again. And hopefully test out the winch.

Yep. Pretty much I have 2 yellow tops that are exactly the same so will do for a day playing in the mud.

Nope gonna go with the tmax split charge system. It's nice and cheap and not too fancy.
It's well used off road so can't see the point in fitting anything fancy.

Literally just for this weekend whilst at the pay and play. Not got the funds (for another week or so) to buy the split charge. So it'll do.

Foundry have it for £39.99, I googled all over for a Tmax splt charge system and all were the double(£80) if not more(saw them at £90 to £100)

I rate the X-charge and have ordered one earlier this week myself, and even then, if I wanted cheap, I could knock up a relay system for about £12 that would be man enough

Yea I did.
Cheap for one with a gauge type thing. Which is what I want.
Most places I've seen em they go for £80. Gonna get one in the next couple of weeks.

I can't be arsed with making one myself leccy stuff int my thing. Wiring all my carling switches with relays and aux fuse box was bad enough and gave me nightmares for weeks. :lol:

So.... Been a while again.


But I've finally got round to ditching the tow bar and putting on a temporary rear recovery point. Cut up some of the towbar also to make it. But looks a lot better and should be safer. And uses the original towbar mounting points.

It's pretty beefy. Mostly made of 10 and 20mm thick steel.

Anyway the pics.
