Yes change over to the higher £460 band didn't happen until later, I bought a 1.8 Freelander new in May 2001 so part of the new emissions based tax system and its details are as below

It won't be £460 to tax but £270 as is my 53 plate MG ZS 180 which pumps out 276 grams of co2

with mine being a '99 and believing the DVLA site (?????? wtf?) it does now appear that you won't be paying £460.

Save £50 a year in tax, awesome. Keep it and I'll take the extra 10mpg.
Perhaps you can have a giggle over the £475 road tax I have to pay on the Gaydon.

I'll keep the extra few inches of ground clearance, proper chassis, proper body, full leather interior, extra torque, off road ability, the fact that I can run it off veg so it negates that 10mpg etc

I don't want to try that's why i have two cars. Average cost of a days laning in fuel is £100. Car I can run for a month on a tank. I.ll keep my knives :fencing:

You have to reasonably accept it. VED isnt applied fairly, when you require a car for work, getting to work or because of personal or geographical circumstances.
When that car has an engine at nearly 5ltrs and only 2 seats, it is purely a pleasure machine and I can understand that as a luxury it is not a necessity and you can expect a good taxing.
