Whoops my mistake, there was I thinking I joined a land rover forum that I could get some info, but obviously it’s not. Top rates for UK are still less than 1/4 of some other EU member states and you're still whining about paying it

I think there are probably quite a few on here owning thirsty, expensive to run vehicles that need to be mindful of the cost of running them. To say "if your worried about the cost of road tax, you shouldn't own it" is elitist. There's nothing wrong with considering the full cost of a vehicle. I own bikes and cars that I can barely afford and have raised children that I never could afford, not to mention a couple of wives.

You are completely miss reading why I posted the question, if I had a choice between taxing a similar vehicle for either £250 or £550 then I will obviously purchase one that costs less to tax, as most people would, that does not make me tight. I own and tax several vehicles every year so it makes sense not to throw even more cash at the government. So sell one of your other motors and stop whining already, Jesus wept and died on a cross so that I had to suffer the "how can I dodge the tax man" questions on ere, gimme a break already.
I'd rather road tax was radically overhauled and everyone paid circa £2,000 yr per vehicle with the rolling 40yr exemption for historic vehicles.

I pay the higher rate on mine and I am delighted to do so - I wanted a D4, I found one, I loved it, I pay willingly for the pleasure of driving the car I want. Car tax payable is secondary to getting a car you enjoy driving.
