road springs

At present I am re-buidling a Series 2 A, want to know whether to use parabolic springs or standard road springs? The vehicle is not going off road, just want a smoother ride.

Standard. Make sure they're in good nick and not all rusty and they're fine.

If your Landy is sitting level and the springs are no sagging I'd not change the springs, because you may run into all sorts of problems with poor quality replacement springs making the vehicle lop sided and going flat after a few months. That was my experience with Britpart rear standard springs. I've heard rumours that all standard new series springs are sourced from the same place as the Britpart ones. I've heard of new Parabolics making the vehicle lopsided too.

I've got parabolics on my SWB S3 and if it's not well loaded down they definitely give your kidneys a pounding ! As i regularly carry fairly heavy loads and tow a trailer off road this isn't a problem but if you just want it for light duties on the road stick with the standard road springs.

Interesting then as one of the main claims for parabolics is that they give a smoother ride.

I bought generic, probably Britpart springs and they have done me proud so far and have had a fair good pounding. But for every one person that has a good experience with Britpart, there seems to be 10 with a bad one!

H I use 7 leaf springs as fitted to the lightweight. They give a smooth ride compared to the new standard petrol springs which I did have fitted. Worth oiling them .too

They must have run out of cheap **** mild steel when they were making yours and used proper spring steel.
