Simon1975, "innocence" or "guilt" is totally irrelevant as far as this matter is concerned, according to the police, who have now taken statements - the other driver Failed To Stop at the scene of an accident - this is a statutory offence under the Road Traffic Act, and one which the police like as it raises their "solved / detected" crime stats nicely. It has no bearing on the matter as to whether the other driver was irritated by having to wait for me to park or not - fact is, he overtook me while I was parking - a rather dodgy and stupid manoever in a narrow little seaside town single lane road anyhow, and collided with my car in so doing, then failed to stop to exchange details or see if there were any injuries, after the accident. "Proving innocence" is really totally irrelevant, he simply failed to stop as required by law. End of.
The damage to the car is really to the outer mirror housing - I retrieved the bits from the road and glued them together so everything is working as it should again, but ideally would like to source an undamaged housing which Gemsdad is helping with at present.
Go for it, & hopefully you'll cause him some serious hassle & make him think twice about ever doing that to anyone again even if somehow he did get off with it. He'll spend a few sleepless nights crapping himself over it anyway.
