Revive Turbo Cleaner - Anyone used it?

Evening guys,

Just wondering if anyone has had a go at using this revive turbo cleaner stuff?

I've got an old 2.5td 90 which I cant imagine would get worse by using this stuff to clean up the turbo/carbon deposits.

I think you will find this kind of gear is for the VGT style of turbo as their vanes can stick and the cleaner removed the carbon or is meant to.
I cant see it doing any good or any harm on your set up, so fill your boots, plus report back here as peeps like to know what works and what doesnt.

Youtube and theres vids of people dripping (not dripping not pouring!) brake fluid/water into the inlet trunking on a running engine to clear the snot out, have actually sploken to people who swear it works.
Also search Mr Muscle over cleaner used as turbo cleaner, again mainly VGT related but a lot cheaper than your revive stuff.

Thanks for the info, yeah I did wonder whether its meant for these old turbos, but as I've bought the stuff already may aswell try it!
Will keep anyone update if they're interested
The old girl is breathing heavy (catch can to be installed this weekend) and just thought i'd try use this stuff to clean out the turbo, only thing I cant find is if I can spray the stuff directly into the turbo or not.

More likely to be head gasket, or general engine wear, than the turbo.

Worn out rings and just a tired engine! my reasoning is that if the engines breathing oil into the air filter then the turbo surely is sucking some of that up and fouling aswell?
 
Is your turbo visually or physically damaged? Also there are many reasons why these engines breath heavily and to be fair even in good health the breather system still puts oil into the filter.

Do you have a photo of your engine please? There are two different kinds of breather on these engines.

Its got alot of oil build up around the inlet housing and i cant spin the wheel with my own hands, i know its a journal bearing turbo (is that correct?) so it shouldn't spin freely, but surely i should be able to spin it?

Yeah from the little research iv'e done it seems as if most 19js breath alot, but my air filter is almost blocked with gunky oil.

And mine only has the one hose coming off the breather, its not the updated system (if thats what your on about)

Sorry if any of that doesnt make sense!

you should be able to spin it with your fingers otherwise exhaust gas wont very easily either
 
Always worth running the breather pipe to atmosphere.
I tried a catch can on the 200 and it was non stop sludge drainage, once to armosphere no oil/no sludge/no anyhting.

You are probably right but seeing how much smoke the thing chugs I don't really want to be leaking slugdy oil into the environment aswell, ill see how the catch can works out, if not i'll try atmosphere or inside the chassis.
 
But also I heard that the breather needs to be connected to the air filter for negative pressure or something?

Its only cars/vans that have breathers into the intake set up, anything remotely large is to atmosphere.

My 200 was leaving slduge on the air filter hecne the catch can.

Cheap test, blank the air filter port and put the breather pipe into an old pop bottle of course make sure theres enough holes around the top of the bottle to allow the pressure out.

It does, not as much as some engines but you might notice a difference in MPG and power, I did when I vented mine to the chassis, its back how it should be now, not to mention breathing in oil fumes can have some nasty irreversible medical side effects, not a huge problem when moving along, a big problem when standing still in traffic.. If its broken it needs fixed, not brushed under the carpet.
 
If its breathing a lot, more than usual, and the turbo is either coked up or starved of oil, a compression test might be able to tell you a lot about what is going on, I would also be testing the oil pressure, I would do all this with fresh 15w40 mineral oil in it, they dont like any kind of synthetic low viscosity oil, a lot of garages will put in 5W30 when doing a service on these because they have a drum of it and thats what goes into everything.

Sorry mate, loads of questions to answer, you could retro fit the latter system, its pretty much the same but uses the filler cap to piggy back the breathing pipe, you could try this, refresh the oil with a decent 15w40 mineral oil, new filters, oil stat, make sure the thing is all in spec then try to fault find it, clogged filters, old oil etc wont help you diagnose this and may well be the problem but to be fair the turbo might not fix itself.
