Reversing camera location

Hi all

I have a rear reversing camera located in the rear cross member at the back.

Great if I had to tow anything (I don't at the moment) but not that helpful when reversing in to a tight spot .

Where have other mounted their reverse camera?
Above the rear washerjet? Can you angle that enough to view the rear?
Under the rear number plate?

Same problem as you have...central mounting to see the towball is great for solo hook-ups, but because I have a rear-mounted spare wheel the "washer jet" mount doesn't work to see the ball. As a result I have to choose between 2 options, so I've angled it towards the nearside. That way I can see the towball and the most-blind-spot on the NS rear corner. Not foolproof but better than nowt.

Are us angeling a camera from the rear cross member across to the nearside or from the washer jet?

Because of the spare wheel, i can't see the wash jet mounted camera working for me due to the wheel getting in the way

I bought on fleabay a number plate surround with camera built into top of it that is adjustable in vertical plain , this allows me to get my towball within 4" of vehicle behind, a godsend on our crowded roads today

Hi Keith. That was an option i considered .having the camera mounted on the rear number plate light .

Is there any chance you could post up a photo of the view the camera gives to your screen to see if it's any better than my location?

Most reversing cameras do not have a good IP rating therefore we mounted it above the rear door rather then rear cross member.

Reversing onto a trailer you should be able to get within a few inches on mirrors. The spare wheel is off centre so some white tape on vehicle centre line helps with lining up.

The odd photo i have found on the internet showing the image from a camera mounted above the washer look good. Maybe that's the place for me to install it .

But i am struggling to see if that's a better view than mine which is in the cross member. My cross member view is srubbish at the moment and gives very little support to reversing.

Hope that turns out, not posted picture on this forum before, when black line at bottom of screen below red line is in middle of car bumper behind my towball is 100mm or 4" away from vehicle behind

Just thinking out aloud: Can you make a bracket to fix to the spare wheel carrier so camera looks through the spare wheel spokes.

Where I used to work the rev cameras were mounted right up the top of the truck bodies looking down and you you could back up real tight to anything, the cameras fitted low down were pertty much rubbish for reversing, more of an aid to stop running people over.
