Reverse light switch-lack there of

Has anyone come across this before. Whilst investigating why the reverse light doesnt work on my newly aquired Defender 110, i discover'd that it doesnt have a switch, at all, on top of the box (r380) where it should be, the casting is correct, but just isnt drilled and tapped, therefore no switch, the wiring is there aswell.

Any ideas as to why? In a previous life it belonged to the leccy board

When you say the wiring is there, is it just hanging??

Yeah, the wiring is there from the loom, 2 open spades, but nothing for them to connect to

Going to rig up a switch to serve for now so i can see to reverse, and sort something more permenant when ive got time, just wondered if anyone had come across this before
