Freelander 1 Reverse light issue...

Hello,
Was informed the other day that my reversing lights where not working.
Shortly after I checked the reverse lights for myself only to seem them working.
At this point I was thinking that for some reason or another I had been misinformed.
However soon after this I noticed when reversing at night that there was no reflection of light (could not see reverse lights reflecting on cars behind when parking) so then proceeded to check the reverse lights again only to find they there where not functioning.
Since then have noticed that some times they work and some times they do not. When investing this I have noted at some times the lights will not come on but then if shaking the car (pushing it from outside to make it move slightly) the lights will then come on and some times they will not come on when car in reverse but then will come one at a random short time later (have a video of this which I will try to attach).
Looking online people with other reverse light issues are coming back to the switch on the gearbox and testing it by linking it out.
Have looked to find the switch and found what I was thinking the switch was but even with he cable disconnected the reverse lights still come on. Also i believe the two cables where the wrong colour.
Please advise where I would find this?

Did you unplug the reverse light switch or the first gear switch??

And assume a manual?

Shaking the vehicle to make an intermittent connection suggests a bad contact somewhere. I'd do a visual on the bulb holder and connection first, any signs of corrosion give it a clean and try it. To eliminate the switch, once you locate it, disconnect it and check for continuity when reverse gear is engaged with ignition on but the engine NOT running. I think what I'd do next to avoid having to locate the wiring through the whole vehicle is go to the bulb holder and back probe the connector with the circuit under load (switch plugged back in and reverse engaged). After that, it's probably on to a wiring diagram and tracing wires.

Will do a visual check of connections and try to eliminate the switch. But still need to know when I may find it? And I think I must have found the first gear switch maybe? Not 100% sure but don't think it was the reverse switch. The switch I am talking about is to the left of and below the battery under the air lines. Has two cables going to it. One black and one that appeared to be red and white.

That doesn’t look like the right one to me. The reverse switch is at the back/bottom/drivers side of the engine (It is for the TD4 anyway) Here look at this thread, it has pictures on how to replace the reversing switch without removing the sump tray
