My mate has just given me a set of guages that I've quickly lashed up in my landy. One is a rev counter, I've just been driving round with it on and was wondering what is the rev-limit of 2.25 petrol....I've not found a definitive answer but seen some mention that max-power is at about 4,500

There was also a vacuum meter. I rigged that up and it just said "poor" when I was idling instead of idle...vacuum leak?

yer best bet for the vaccuume gauge is to tap straight into the intake fanimold but make damn sure it dont leak otherwise itll run like a bag o ****

another good place for them is tapping into the brake servo air vacuume pipe but same with that otherwise yer brakes will be crap or overheat like frook

Thanks Johnny, I was gonna T into the distributor vacuum advance pipe it comes from the bottom of the carb. Not sure why it is reading such a low vacuum at idle as it seems to be running pretty well so wouldn't have thought it was leaking or owt. Compression is bang on, don't think my brake servo is leaking either as it does its job well enough

Would still be interested in rpm limit. Heard lots of people on here claiming 70mph plus on a SWB with standard tyres and no overdrive...they must be screamin the tits off their engines!

PS: To all the its a landrover, you're not supposed to drive it fast brigade....that is not why I am asking. I'd like the rev counter to check how its running and so I don't rag the arse off it when I'm towing...

wrong place. vacuum pipe in carb is not at manifold pressure. or suck should i say. put it into the servo pipe.
