My last Freelander had the same issue so after a few minutes thinking about it I dug out a six inch nail, bashed it a bit to get the approx shape and welded it in.
It weren't pretty but is still there. :p

Lovely day today - summer has returned (for at least 24 hours anyway)

Took off the roof, windows down and sun roofs open: lovely!!!

Drove over to the Land Rover dealership on the M40. I really like the new Discovery and the Velar. But nothing you'd want to throw around off load? Hmmm. Second hand Discovery 3 or 4 perhaps? Not sure I'd get a P38 project past the steering committee lol ;)

Encouraged by the OWUT I did this evening: 45 seconds on three runs. Looks like it'll live for a few more years, but bearing replacement is increasingly likely. Need to check them. Seems to me if you're doing a VCU support bearing replacement you've done most of the work required to replace the VCU too!

Where best to get OEM spec VCU bearings if I need them? :)

Last time I used Bearmach but as I don't seem to be able to keep my cars for more than a few months I've no idea how long they lasted. o_O

Thanks: bound to be quieter than the ones currently grumbling away under the car! :D

Edit: Well, the Rimmers site is as clear as mud with "Genuine", "OEM" and "Aftermarket"! I rather thought that OEM=Genuine, but there is a 100% difference in price???

LOL - Aftermarket - yes, that sounds about right!!!
I fitted two drive shafts from Eurocarparts to my lifted Freelander. They might have been OK on a standard car but on mine they wobbled like crazy. The car was almost undriveable. I returned them for GKN refurbed units and the problem was gone.
Yes I did kick myself for penny pinching the first time as replacing them again was a lot of extra work.

Cheap drive shafts are false economy on the FL1. GKN are the only replacements I've found that don't cause vibration under drive.

I've used the crap bearings and changed them more frequently then I'd like

Changed to genuine LR and have been enjoying the silence since for over 12 months now (other makes lasted approx 1-2 months)

Today, I tackled that broken exhaust bracket:

With this stainless (2") universal exhaust bracket:

Job's a good 'un - and it saves me from having to wield the hot metal glue gun upside down! ;) :)
