Retrofit Cruise Control Not Quite Working

Hi, my name is Phil and I have been reading the cruise control retrofit threads with interest. After finding the plug under the driver seat I decided to have a go at fitting the system to my recently purchased 54 facelift TD4 Auto.

I fitted the cruise engage switch followed by cutting a hole in the steering wheel for the set/res steering switch and finally fitted the ECU part number SCB100211.

What I now have is a cruise that works but not as the book suggests. The master switch doesn't bring on the dashboard light, to get the system going you have to push the RES steering switch and then the light comes on. The SET switch will now set the speed and increase the speed when you push it again but the RES switch doesn't minus speed or resume after braking, if you push it it kills the system and you have to cycle the master engage switch OFF and back ON to bring everything back to life.

I am wondering if the SCB100211 ECU is correct for my Freelander or if I possibly have wiring problems like when I plug my bike rack in and I get traction control warnings.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Just out of interest... Why didn't you mount the switch in the blank on the RHS of the dash where it's supposed to go? If you remove the blank you'll most likely find wiring attached to the back of it.

Yep, that's where I mounted the main engage switch, on the RHS next to the Parking Sensor switch, the SET/RES went on the steering wheel which is the hole I had to cut out and the ECU under the seat.

I fitted a after market kit (proper landy stuff) and the way it works is switch it on by the switch, then pull the bottom button towards you the dash light for the cruise will light up , then set it by the top button , and the way I have found to switch it of is take foot of the gas peddle and pull bottom button towards you again , and now the light on the dash will go out. hope this helps

Thanks very much for your reply, that's how mine works :). Like you, I have fitted the proper Landy ECU and two switches and so thought it would work as the owners handbook said, but it's exactly as you describe above so i can stop hunting for the other ECU and use it as is.

Contary to popular belief on here then cruise needs configuring in the engine ecu using T4 as it changes the operation to the same as the handbook.
