Disco 3 (LR3) Retro fitting Heated windscreen washer jets

Perhaps as it's not considered a priority, after all it's something which is hardly used, my car has them plus the heated screen, steering wheel and seats, in the two years of ownership yesterday was the first time I switched the kit on, electric mirrors and seats which I never touch even on the disco.
Perhaps you should also consider the 'Hot Wash' or one of the DIY variety as a warm water spray across the screen works wonders, is something which I had on my RR as that was used anytime 24/7 and didn't stay on the driveway unused just because there's a few inches of snow on the ground.

over the last 30 x years of land rover ownership i have indeed like most of us had the frozen washer jets

one of the main reasons i bought the base model was i didn’t really want the extra bells and whilstles, however i’ve then added bits that i’ve found to be very useful , ie front manual seats to electric and now wish to add heated jets as it’s driven me nuts especially when driving down the motorway and finding the jets have frozen

alas done a 50/50 mix of screen wash but alas still frozen every winter , of course i can adjust the concentration of the mixture , but jets have to be unfrozen in order i can get the fluid to the jets

it has fitted as standard heated mirrors and wouldn’t even dream of using a warm water spray across a screen, alas also seeing warm water freezes quicker than cold water

just feel it’s a simple mod but mainly for the safety factor to ensure my screen remains clear at all times

feel it’s a simple mod which will return dividends , just so fed up messing around and now have the opportunity to at least fit them

of course it’s not just when snow is on the ground , just don’t wish to mess around warm water etc any more
 
@discool not even a splat of screen wash will unfreeze your jets that's why they make heated ones ;).

indeed just feel it’s going to be a worthwhile modification fititng heated jets

don’t have a heated screen and in all fairness happy to just let the heater demist the screen, know they are suppose to be very good, but for the first time i have the FBH which i think is great in how quickly it heats the cabin up

already have as standard the heated mirrors

suppose having the base model the only mods i’ve done is change the front seats from manual to electric, mainly because of my back as the electric one adjust the front cushion to support under ur knees along with lumber support , was one of the best mods i’ve done

not worried about heated steering wheels or heated screen, just the lack of heated jets drives me nuts year in year out as the jets always freeze up without fail

indeed even if i poured in neat screen wash the jets will still freeze, lol
 
Well this is certainly an interesting thread, just this morning I was getting p***ed off with the snow freezing the jets. Think I will be retro fitting some D4 (apparently better) heated jets to my D2, maybe on the rear heated screen, as I take it these heaters aren't instant, as in no point in putting them on the washer pump?
Might even wrap some washer pipe round the engine coolant pipe to get some hot water, might improve cleaning.
 
Don,t have heated washers but what i do is, from about October/November i only fill the washer bottle with NEAT concentrated Washer fluid.
Really helps to clean windows on a mucky motorway.
Everything helps.
 
Just add metholated spirits to your washer bottle, no more frozen jets or washer fluid you dont need much
Old school stuff that worked way before the fruity smelling stuff available to day was thought of, any meths that was left over after the winter was used in the summer to boil a kettle of water, for the tea pot when stopped by the roadside for a quick cuppa... so I'm told :D
 
Ok, heated windscreen washer jets if they operate via the heated front screen or door mirrors/rear screen circuits both of which are timed, how long do the washer jets retain their heat, obviously they cool and so you come to use the washers againi further down the road only to find the jets are frozen.
So what then... activate one of the above circuits again I suppose and wait the minute or so for the washers to unfreeze.

I should know but I don't, my normal car has heated jets fitted, and are operating without issue in the snow, even though the heated front and rear screen weren't in use. Perhaps their auto and dependant on outside temps and just one of the gizmos modern cars have.

u have a very good point and indeed not timed , from what i’ve been reading through the heated mirrors stay on below minus 5 , when the FBH also comes on

the heated washer jets are indeed controlled by the heated mirrors

it looks as though the same engine looms are used in the base and hse , alas mine just not having that extra heated jet wiring , so i’m wondering if there tucked away

another D3 owner who owns an hse and has the heated jets is going to look at his for me and what the route is of these wires
 
In theory a ceramic element attached to the washer jet would retain heat, depends on the size and obviously the size barrier to protect the jet attachment area from the amount of heat the ceramic element contained, could be a large lump :( but included within the vehicles design so not really an issue.
