Hi All,
After my drivers door popped open a couple of times while driving, and doing a little bit of research on which type of locks I could have, I decided to get the anti burst door locks and new strikers. They arrived today, and I was "optimistic" as to how much daylight and dryness there would be, and so I started to change out the passenger side lock first (as that side sometimes locked, and sometimes didn't lock).
After taking away lots of bits and bobs which related to the older locks, it looks like the striker I now have, fits to the frame without the many bits of plastic packing that have been used to shim out the old striker.
I've got to the point where the door looks to fit the frame well, with an even panel gap all round, and the door closes and locks as it should... (this is all without the rubber seal in place)
When I replace the rubber seal, the lock only goes onto the 1st click, but there doesn't seem to be any more adjustment in the striker...
I've thought about replacement seals, but they are reasonably new, and look to be fitted well.
I've thought about shimming out the hinge side, in a hope that the seal is too tight on that side, and a shim could help with that..
(Any suggestions welcome - Obviously)
Unfortunately cold, rain and night stopped play for today, so I will see what I can achieve in the morning, in terms of getting it to fit on the 2nd click, but I feel that (like the door) it's close!
Once I'm happy with that side, I'll do the drivers side, which I think will be more of an issue, as looking at it now, it doesn't look well aligned in any case, so a bit more giggling will need to be done to get that sorted I'm sure!
