Hi all,

Yet another thread here.

First of all thoughts on replacing discovery 1 200tdi discs, they have been sat for around 18 months, would a couple of careful drives see them back to normal?

Replacing the discs on this look more involved than first thought, it's not a standard replacement like a car but having to remove the hub according to this video:

How long would this usually take a diy'er?

Thanks

Getting the hub off doesn't take long at all. Wheel off, end cap off, circlip and shims off. Drive flange off, Caliper off( I normally hang it off the spring so it's out of the way) then hub lock nut off and lock tab washer followed by the last hub nut. After that it all slides off. Don't loose the spacer washer that sits between the hub nut and the bearings and if you are not replacing the bearings while the hubs off keep them clean . I'd say to that point is 30-40 mins. I use and impact gun so it doesn't take long to undo the bolts.

Some hard braking might sort them out, it will be the back of the disc that you cannot see that rusts badly, generally once the rust is there it is a bugger to get rid of.
If you have access to some private land slap the pads in back to front (ie metal to metal) and use the brakes a few times, then new pads (fitted the correct way!) and see how you get on.

If you do the discs the only special tool you need is a 1/2 inch 12 point socket for the disc to hub bolts.
