Replacement Wheels on My 90

Looking to replace my original steel wheels on my 90. I was originally thinking of buying 8 spoke steel wheels with Cooper STT's but finding them hard to come by at a decent price.
Found a bloke who is selling what look like old Discovery (Freestyle??) alloys with Advantage Mudtracker tyres 265/70/16.

Would like my learned Landyzoners to confirm a couple of things here please:-
1. Will these alloys fit my 90 ok without spacers / other changes
2. Any experiences with these tyres? I am generally 50% off road,50% on road and do about 3-4k miles pa in the landy

I know most of you will say stick with the Coopers but there's quite a big difference in cost and wondering whether I should take a punt.
 
Make sure they are D1 wheels, D2 are different. :)

Myself I wouldnt dream of swapping steels for alloys, although I agree the 8 spokes are tat. Steel rarely give a problem, alloys often do.

TBH at the mileage you are doing, best go with cheap tyres, they may perish before they wear out! ;)
 
Unless your front axle has been updated to match the rear i believe you will have clearance problems on the front hub with Freestyle type alloys

And i believe changed when the 300tdi was introduced (circa 94) please correct if I'm wrong
 
I tried fitting Freestyle Alloys on my 1990 110. They didn't fit. I would have needed to fit spacers which I didn't want to do as they burn your wheel bearings out quicker. You will not be able to get the center piece on the Freestyle. Plus Freestyle are not weight rated for a 110.
Personally I wouldn't touch Freestyle Alloy wheels for any Defender. One good knock and they will be buggered. The other thing I would mention is you get what you pay for regarding tires. I fitted General Grabers AT2's. They made a big difference from the BFG's I had. They are much quieter and noticeable better grip in the wet. To my mind the little extra you pay pays off in a more pleasant ride and better safety in the wet.

Thanks that is sound advice. I think I'll avoid the alloys.
 
Just my opinion by I think defenders looks better with steels, 'wolf' XD wheels being the best, but standard LR steels with the right tyre look good aswell IMO
