Hi all,

i'm looking for some advice here. - I am about to sell my 1996 Discovery 1 300tdi, for how much, not really sure as yet, and replace it with a later Defender.
Now, the question is, is an early Defender TD5 (1999/2000) the way to go, or a very late 300tdi?
I like the idea that the td5 can have the ECU remapped so that off road I have a little more torque available.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I have just gone through the same as you are about to. I was worried about the costs if the td5 went wrong more than anything else. In the end I decided to keep my options open and kept my eye out for both. I have ended up with a 1999 td5. If you are used to a 300tdi you will notice the extra torque from the td5 without it needing chipping. I would say just look around at whats about and let the vehicle that turns up make the decision for you.
