Replacement CV Joints - FL1 TD4

A couple of years ago I fitted a new GKN near side front driveshaft to my 2005 TD4. Unfortunately the inner boot has split and I didn't notice it until too late and the car now has a knocking/clicking on full lock. Now I'm really reluctant to change the shaft as I'd forked out the extra cash for a seemingly decent one (so it's dissapointing that the boot failed so quickly).

As a result of the above I'm looking to source a replacement joint and GKN ones seem to be rare and very expensive. Can anyone recommend a supplier of quality ones anywhere that are not going to cost the earth? I have come across this supplier that has very reasonably priced ones but I'm a bit wary that the quality/longevity may let me down.

In my experience, the aftermarket shafts do cause vibration under acceleration. I'm surprised a GKN boot should fail so quickly, as they're normally good for a decade or more.
Maybe find a good second hand shaft, as a cheaper alternative to a new GKN?

No one can produce synthetic rubber that lasts. Got fed up with front wishbone small Bush ripping out round edges. Poly solves problem in suspension but dunno if CV boots available in poly yet??

Secondhand low mileage is what you need. Can't say where from !!

I think I need to pop up to see you Andy. I'm going to be needing those hubs and arms soon as a rear end (oo err) refurb is fairly imminent so you may be able to assist with this particular issue too

I'd like to see if I can just get a decent joint and boot if possible in the first instance as the replacement shaft (which you should recall

) was a new GKN and has performed well and is only just over a couple of years old. It's just the blummin boot that has caused the issue. I def don't want an aftermarket shaft that'll not be up to the job. A decent 2nd hand shaft may be an alternative consideration.

I don't think the front CV are available separately. We did my son's 2004 recently. He has full trade access to all the supplier databases, and tried every one, but in the end we had to get the full driveshaft complete with CV's.

I used a cheapo from ebay a few years ago and it lasted for 6 months or so until I sold the car. No idea how much longer it lasted but fixed the fault at the time.
