Ello ello ello....

Just purchased an 04 plate freelander td4 Hardback with 119k on the clock, so low miles for age!
I've been told about the vcu by a friend and he said they ususall should get replaced around 70k! Obviously mine is on 119k and land rover have said unless it's faulty like anything else is then you should replace it.. otherwise it should last the life of the car.
Was looking at a place called "Bell engineering" as they seem to be decent and they do reconditioned units.

What do we think? Car seems fine to drive etc..... they're not just a couple of quid so don't know what's best!?

Cheers! :)

Do the one wheel up test and then decide, once you do, you'll know it's still serviceable or needs replacing. ;)

Mine is on 120K and approaching the end of it's working life.

Yeah ok mate, cheers!

Its so weird how some people are on 180k or 190k and there VCUs are still perfectly fine!
Just differs from car to car lol

VCU life is mainly dependant on how religiously the tyre maintenance schedule is adhered to. If a mix n match of tyres are fitted, then VCU life will be short.
If the tyres are maintained as per LRs instructions, then the VCU will last much longer, as will the IRD and diff.
Although at 180K+ miles, there's no guarantee that the VCU isn't busy trashing the IRD.
