Had been following this out of interest , originally a non starting fault , so pleased they weren’t driving it or hurt , that must have been seriously scary to see it go up in smoke so quickly
Probably the extinguisher did more damageGo up in smoke? Just a little bit of smoke from melting insulation as far as I can see. I was expecting a nice big fire, even the tyres are OK.
If it was a dry powder extinguisher then you are certainly rightProbably the extinguisher did more damage

There was me thinking, why put all those dirty engine parts on a pristine back seat and, not in the boot? but, end of the day
not that important.
didnt see any flames, not a proper fire, if there was a big diesel leak, it would stink, surely?
if in doubt of an electrical fault, dont tighten the battery and have a mate ready to disconnect it
Engine didn't start though and was fully cold so no chance of diesel catching fire even if there were sparks.I wondered if maybe one of the return fuel rail fittings were accidentally broke down by the left hand side , know they can become very brittle , from what I can gather some are virtually above the starter motor so maybe a few drips landed on it causing the start of a fire ??
know there’s also a metal pipe that goes from the HPFP to the rail at the back left hand corner as u look at the engine
But at the end of the day one saving grace he was ok and it wasn’t a petrol engine
If the starter motor wasn't turning, would stilll be drawing current and, could be getting hot, boiling diesel, one spark and,Engine didn't start though and was fully cold so no chance of diesel catching fire even if there were sparks.
Have used dry powder and its a bitch to clean up after. We asked for and got CO2 extinguishers aswell as and these were tons betterIf it was a dry powder extinguisher then you are certainly right
