Ebay lists the standard renault thermostat with a diameter of 43mm and also a low temperature version that looks identical but has a diameter of 40mm (if the listing is accurate). I figure i may as well get the narrower one if it is still compatible. Anyone know any reason I can't use the low temperature one for the mod? It's for an automatic so I know it is going to be a struggle to get it in there.

40mm will be the body dimension, and 43 will be the flange dimension.

This may help.
Several ways of doing this. I prefer the later with the hose size increase. Especially on an Automatic.

Freelander 1 - Fuel Burning Heater - still on with temperature normal SOLVED

Goes like this… it’s a PITA working the stat into the hose!
