Hi, After finding a workshop manual thanks to other members, i am now going to remove my engine with Auto box. Has anybody got any advice on doing this, any short-cut, also i have never remove engine with an Auto-box, any advice regarding reconnecting, linning up,will i need any special tools. Cheers Colin

If your removing the engine and box as one hope you have a bloody good engine crane. If your removing engine and leaving box in place. Disconnect torque convertor from flex plate and leave torque convertor on box. It will need strapping and box supporting so it does not fall out.

Yes along with radiator and air con condensor. You will need as much room as you can get. Handy thing to have is a movable lifting bar so you can adjust it and tilt engine backwards to make things easier extracting it.

depends what your doing but i remove heads makes job especially top gear box bolts easy, but i build my own engines and leave heads off replacement till fitted

....... an old P38 trick ...........
get it up to about 70 mph, turn into your driveway ..... timing it just right, slam on the brakes ......... engine and gearbox usually just pop out the front straight onto the bench.

sorry, couldn't resist ........... :)

You only need to remove the coolant rad and slam panel not the air on rad also the exhaust manifolds and the mountings then you can lower the engine and get to the upper bell housing bolts easy my record is 3 hours out on the deck but I d remove and refit at east once a week lol

i agree with james martin.. ive done a few now, and always take the heads off, the two top gearbox bolts and be a bit of a fiddle and tight.. much easier with them off

when i did mine i removed all the injection system and both exhaust manifolds and the radiator and alternator, air con pump and power steering pump are just unbolted and placed to one side,DONT FORGET TO REMOVE THE VISCOUS FAN:doh:,i jacked mine up and put railway sleepers under the wheels gives loads of room to crawl about under engine, you can get to all 14 bellhousing bolt without removing engine mounts first and lowering the engine buts its a fiddle,if you cant remember where all the bolts go put them in sandwich bags and mark them take photos on your mobile for reference, steering shaft only needs to be undun at the steering box end you can lift it to get to the exhaust manifold bolts.i used a forklift to remove/refit the engine:D.on start up remove fuel pump relay and spark plugs and spin engine on starter a couple of times to prime oil pump and get some oil around engine before fireing her up for the first time.

have fun and enjoy

Fair play if you're up to this.......I'd rather buy another or pay someone who really know their stuff...good luck!

Hi Colin I know its been a while but wondered how you got on with the engine out? did you just take out the lump or include the Gearbox?
