Removing Fuel Injectors on a 200TDi

The cause of much head-scratching on my drive today was the fuel injectors on the Disco 200 TDi.

I took off the fuel return rail and the fuel supply pipes easily enough and then took out the retaining clamps (two of the studs came out with the nuts annoyingly).

Anyway, according to my Haynes Book of Lies, I should just be able to pull the injectors out. That is definitely a fib and they don't seem to unscrew either...

they are just a tight fit you need to move them round and back to loosen then then pull them upwards while turning them

Damn...I'm turning into some kind of pathetic weakling as I age. Will give them a proper yanking tomorrow night.

Today has not gone smoothly. I'm removing the head and, by now, it should be sitting in a bin bag awaiting some rebuilding work on the kitchen table during the evenings this week.

Instead I broke the (rather rusty) pipe running between the valve cover and the inlet manifold. Also tried splitting the turbo from the exhaust manifold and rounded two of the nuts before deciding to give up and split the downpipe from the front of the exhaust. Discovered some of my silicon hosing from/to the turbo is rather iffy. Head is still firmly attached to the block though....

Also discovered the Rover Vitesse is seeping coolant from somewhere mysterious. Had to ban my wife from driving more than 10 miles at once, otherwise I'll have two non-runners on the drive!!!

if you are removing the head leave them in till you get the head of then knock them out fron the otherside but be careful not to damage them

theres a special tool to do this job. like a mini/small slide hammer. cost about 50 quid though!
