hello, I have a 2006 3.0 Range Rover vogue diesel. My question is how do I stop my fuel burning heater from working? The reason being is it pours smoke out on some mornings when it’s cold, I don’t use it! I don’t want to use it and it’s annoying when I’m parked up and it puffs blue smoke out. I have looked through many posts about people’s not working mine works but I don’t want it to. Is there a way to disable it? If so how do I do it? Thanks

The fuel burning heater kicks in to help get the diesel up to temp when its cold out there you sure you want to disable it, there has got to be a fuse somewhere for it which might do the trick if you pull it probably location in hand book other than that near side wheel off wheel arch liner out and unplug it best I can do.

Hi kds, thanks for the info I have looked at many threads for which fuse it is but there seems to be a lot of confusion over which one it might be. I didn’t get a handbook/owners manual with it when I bought it so have been googling and it always comes up with this site, but many different posts on which fuse it maybe. I was going to disable the module in the boot thought that might do it but looking at various posts I think that’s just for the sat nav based side of it and won’t turn it off. So I think I might have a look into taking the wheel off and liner and going down that route. Thanks for your help.

I thought that it was programmable via the dash display? Pulling a fuse or the loom connector may well throw up faults as every darned thing is interconnected.

Hi, yes it is. I also have the fob too, it’s switched to off on the dash and I don’t use the fob as I don’t want to use it. Even in the off position it still kicks in, it’s embarrassing when parked at traffic lights or elsewhere and the temp drops to a certain degree, and you get this big plume of smoke coming out from under the engine. So I would just rather disable it and feel the cold. I’ve had cars in the past without this feature and it never bothered me then. I understand about the possible faults removing a fuse could bring up but I’m willing to take that chance. Thanks for the advice it’s much appreciated.

There should be a fully off setting in the hidden menus.

I'd suggest finding a way to see which fuse does what and looking for aux heating fuse.

Is it working properly? I only ask as I had a FBH on a previous car and it didn’t give out any smoke - it was diesel - is your FBH actually combusing properly or does it need a bit of a fettle?

A Diesel burning FBH need regular attention, they soot up & the ignition glow plug gives trouble. Apart from a small puff of smoke on ignition, it should be smoke free if running correctly

Don’t suppose you could tell me how to find it and switch it off could you? Thanks

Hopefully they will see this post and maybe offer some help thanks

Help already offered, #8.All you have to do is find the fuse. There may be other ways but that has been tried and tested and appeared to work. Well for 3yrs, that I know of...

I had thought of that but he wants it off. So advice given on how to switch it off. As I said there may be more complex, clever ways but that seems to work ;)

Best thing it to access it and pull the 2 pin plug. You may think you don't want to use it but the fact is the FBH is used it every time you start your engine when the temp is 6 or below as a auxiliary heater. The alternator sends a start up signal to the FBH each time you start the engine. If the FBH is receiving a signal from the temp sensor telling the FBH the ambient temp is 6 or below, then the signal from the Alternator will initiate FBH start up. It runs until up to temp, then goes into standby until engine cools down, or the engine is turned off.
You remote control is for use as a parking heater (or pre heater), when the engine is not running. I repair the Webasto FBH, and unless the parking heater remote control has been modified to switch off the signal from either the temp sensor, or the alternator (a mod I did to mine and SWMBOs), because they are frequently just moved on/off the drive, or used for less than 5 mins, making FBH start up pointless when above freezing.
Although emitting smoke the FBH is still working, bit like a BBQ, except the carbon build up does not get hot enough to turn to ash.
You will notice a big difference when you disable the FBH.

The parking heater function is controlled by the user, the auxiliary heater function is controlled is by the vehicle, unless the auxiliary heater function has been disabled or modified for user control.
Standard parking heater installation control will not give remote control of the auxiliary heater function that I have come across, but I tend to steer clear of factory controllers, too expensive.

Been a while since I did RR install, cannot remember the fuse no, but pretty sure it is engine bay 20A.

I have cured smoke emission on numerous occasions with the FBH in situ, the line between smoke and no smoke can be pretty thin. with the FBH warmed up and running, I put my compressor hose in the air intake, this has blown carbon out the exhaust. I have also fed the FBH paraffin instead of diesel, ( using a standalone dose pump and 6 pin adapter harness, so the FBH sends the pulse to the standalone dose pump, instead of the vehicle dose pump, the dose pump is controlled by the FBH, not the vehicle electrics, and used the air hose as well.

So just to clarify then, if I pull the 2 pin plug on the Webasto it will turn it off permanently? Thank you

Correct, the fuse being in or out makes no difference when pulling the 2 pin power connector from the FBH, as long as both the engine and FBH are not running.. But if you decide to plug it back in, best to remove the fuse first

Disco and some Range Rovers use the same set up and FBH
Is yours a L322 with a Thermo top like this
