removing dashboard part

Not sure what part it's called. But the black part that is above the radio and houses the screen (if you have one) or the clock and pocket. Also the switches for EAS etc. That part.

How do I remove it? And if its in RAVE, what is it called so I can find it?

Want to remove it tomorrow for a re-spray.

Its under electrical: repair: facia mounted switches.
If you look at the panel you'll see a join where the radio is, the bottom bit is all one piece with the side panels, they are held by a screw and a round peg thing that slides up into the bottom of the switch panel with teh clock in, In rave there's a diagram showing the way to separate them, a big black arrow pointing down.
The peg can be quite tight so be careful not to damage the edges when you try and prise them apart

Have I got to realy remove the instrument binacle? I might leave it until I do the LED's in the instruments...

I played around with replacing the illuminating bulbs behind the instruments with LEDs but couldn't get enough spread of light from any LEDs that I could find, they were all too directional. If it's colour that your after either try painting bulbs or fitting a plasma screen.

LED's worked well for me. T5 286 LED's are as cheap as chips on the Bay of E if you're prepared to wait till they come round the world. Green ones give a nice warm glow to the instruments. You're right that most of the light comes straight out the end, dressing the face of the LED with glass paper and then touching over with green paint gives a more even spread. They fit in all the instruments, the three behind the speedometer, clock, switch panel, gear positions and the HVAC panel including the tricky one behind the AUTO fan speed knob you don't want to be doing too often. The bonded bulbs in the HVAC panel can be modified to LED's by paring back the plastic of the LED and mounting in the bulb holder. They are polarity sensitive so test them before screwing everything back together - but they will last forever unlike the original filament type.
